• Aug. 19, 2007 - Alternative Clinics Offer Holistic Ways To Beat Addiction
This was the headline of a story in Alternative Health magazine. The traditional medical and the 12-step program route to helping people heal their addictions have not been very successful. Between 70 to 85% of addicts that complete these programs relapse in 6 to 12 months. If this was a business, the business would be bankrupt very quickly. Until recently there haven’t been many other effective options available. Now there are. Some alternative health clinics are boosting success rates in working with all kinds of addictions to as high as 85%! One of the ways that the holistic approach is different from the other approaches is in the realization that alcoholism and drug abuse can ravage the GI tract thereby limiting the ability of the body to absorb nutrients from foods. Therefore, these clinics are pumping nutrients into the patient’s body through IV and oral nutrient therapies. The clinics are also able to customize the nutrient formula based on which substance the patient is withdrawing from. Some might get nutrients that have a calming impact whereas others may get some that stimulate their brains.
One study had 15 newly sober patients in it. They all rated the severity of 15 “abstinence symptoms”, such as, cravings, anxiety, depression, etc., both before and after 6 days of IV and oral nutrition therapy. All 15 found abstinence symptoms were radically reduced which made it far easier for them to maintain their sobriety.
Alternative clinics are also very effectively using ear acupuncture to increase the success rate in the elimination of addictions. So…if you or someone you love has an addiction, don’t walk – run to the nearest clinic of this type.
Here are some clinics you can go to: www.innerbalancehealthcenter.com, www.bridgingthegap.com, www.healthrecovery.com, and www.cri-help.com.
• Aug. 3, 2007- Feedback On Getting Rid Of Fibroids
Last month, I wrote about natural methods for getting rid of uterine fibroids without having to resort to surgery. One of my readers emailed me to share her experience. Beth was diagnosed with a dozen fibroids when she was 41; some were the size of golf balls. She decided to explore an alternative route and with mental imaging, she managed to shrink them by 20%.The doctors told her that after menopause, the fibroids would disappear but, in her case, they didn’t. Her naturopath put her on Detoxamin (www.idetoxamin.com), which she took for sixty days. In six months, all that was left were just a couple of fibroids that were barely visible using ultrasound. As a matter of fact, the technician who did the ultrasound was the same one who had done it 18 months earlier. Beth said that the technician seemed very frustrated because she couldn’t believe that the fibroids were gone. So…before you or someone you know who has fibroids undergoes surgery, explore your alternatives. As Beth’s testimony demonstrates, there are finally real options out there for women.
• Jul. 29, 2007- Difficulties Losing Weight? It Might Be Due To Food Allergies
A study from Baylor Medical College found that many people who are attempting to lose weight could be experiencing adverse reactions to common foods. It turns out these hidden food allergies prevent efficient fat burning in the body. The Baylor study found that 98% of the subjects who avoided the foods that they were allergic to, decreased their weight and improved their muscle to fat ratio. They also experienced improvements in their skin and they had more energy, migraine relief, a reduction in sugar cravings, better moods and better sleep. The laboratory test that was used to determine hidden allergies in the study’s participants is called the Alcat test. There is currently only one US Government certified lab where you can get this test done and you can find out more about it by going to www.Alcat.com.

Besides fueling our cars, we also need to fuel our bodies. As I’ve mentioned before, nutrition and lifestyle can have a dramatic effect on our level of personal energy. Your optimum health and well-being is heavily reliant on having the right resources available in your body. Replacing important nutrients ensures that your body’s systems will operate efficiently and provide you with the energy to do your routine activities, as well as to have enough reserves for stressful activities.
This is why I recommend taking vitamins and minerals and I have good news for you. Achieving your optimum nutritional balance has just got less expensive. My company has created an exciting alliance with Village Green Apothecary. • Jul. 23, 2007- Options To Surgery For Women With Fibroids
Years ago a good friend of mine asked me if there were natural alternatives to surgery for getting rid of uterine fibroids. At the time I could not find a single option. Fibroids affect 8 of every 10 women in the United States and the National Institutes of Health estimates that 200,000 US women a year choose hysterectomies to end their fibroid difficulties.Four Chinese studies were published using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Research from China: Collection of Blue Poppy Research Reports on CD (Blue Poppy Press, 2004). These studies involved 193 women who had fibroids. After treatments using TCM, 28% of the women experienced a complete cure and 63% showed both a decrease of at least one-third in the size of the fibroid as well as significant reductions in symptoms.
Since TCM practitioners use a holistic diagnosis, which is based on a person’s physical symptoms, events in their lives, their emotional conditions, and their diet, there isn’t a specific formula to use in getting rid of fibroids. The best approach is to find someone who practices TCM in your community and consult with them. So…while I couldn’t help my friend, it is now possible to attempt a non-surgical approach first.

• Jul. 9, 2007- Stop Those Mosquitoes From Biting
Over the years I’ve written several times about what you can do to prevent mosquitoes from biting. One of the things that I’ve found works really well is to take 100mg of Vitamin B1 every 6 to 8 hours when you are going to be outside. Now there are some products that you can apply topically that are natural. One is Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. It offers similar protection as products that contain DEET. The brand is called Repel Lemon Eucalyptus and is safe even for children to use.
Two others that have been proven effective are Bite Blocker which is a soybean based product and Buzz Away which contains citronella, eucalyptus, lemon grass and other herbs. Check your health food store or go online to www.amazon.com to buy them.
There is also a repellent that can be placed on your patio or deck to give area protection when you are having a gathering or just dinner outside. It’s a device call Mosquito Congnito. It works by releasing a spray that blocks the mosquito’s sense of smell. Studies have shown it to be twice as effective as DEET. It only costs $30 and is available from www.mosquitomiracle.com and www.biosensory.com.
• Jun. 30, 2007- Genetically Engineered Cows Milk Leads To Twins
A study recently published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine found that a group of women who consumed milk products from cows given genetically engineered hormones had a five times greater chance of giving birth to fraternal twins than a group of vegans who didn’t consume any milk products. The study found that the growth hormone used in cows increased ovulations in the women and that the hormone persisted in the women’s bodies after it was consumed. Since the FDA does not require that food manufacturers label genetically engineered foods, the only way to avoid the bovine growth hormone is to buy organic milk. And once again, if you’d like to make your opinion count about the foods you and your loved ones eat, pop an email to you-know-who…
• Jun. 19, 2007- The Bad Kinds Of Fats Are Still In Restaurant Food
Trans fatty acids are the bad fats. One recent study linked trans fats to diabetes and other ailments and suggested that they might cause up to 228,000 heart attacks. The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies suggested in 2002 that “trans fatty acid consumption be as low as possible.” It said the intake should be zero.
Since the FDA has required food manufacturers to list trans fatty acids on their labels, the manufacturers have been removing them. However, the FDA has refused to require restaurants to disclose trans fat content. Since Americans now get 38 percent of their calories from restaurant food, that’s a lot of unknown fat pouring into our bodies.
Can the fast food chains get the trans fats out of the foods they offer? Well, it turns out that in Denmark, where there is a law severely restricting trans fats, McDonalds has reduced a large meal of chicken nuggets and French fries down to 0.33 grams of trans fatty acids whereas in a USA McDonalds, you’d be getting 10.1 grams of trans fats in the same meal. So…maybe it’s time for us consumers to start pressuring the FDA to at least get the restaurant industry to tell us what they are putting in our food. (from an article by Nicholas D. Kristof). Go to www.fda.gov if you’d like to inform them of your position on this issue.
• Jun. 10, 2007- Combinations Of Food Additives Cause Nerve Cell Damage
A two-year study published in the Toxicological Sciences journal found that food additives that are safe by themselves are dangerous when consumed in combination. The researchers exposed mice to four common food additives (Brilliant Blue, MSG, Quinoline Yellow and aspartame) and examined the effects in the brain. The researchers found that, when combined, the additives interfered with the nerve signaling systems and actually stopped nerves from growing. This interference with nerve cell growth in the brain may be contributing to the epidemic attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD in kids. So…feeding diet soda, which contains aspartame, and crackers with processed cheese, which contains MSG, to your kids may actually be setting them up to experience learning challenges.
